    The ensemble performs a full range of styles from the best jazz charts of traditional swing to be-bop and fusion. Each year this ensemble plays several concerts both on and off campus. In recent years the group has presented concerts in Hobart, Indianapolis, Columbus, Princeton, Peru, New Castle, Jeffersonville, Evansville, and Jasper.

    Jazz Combos. Students are divided into four to six jazz combos of varying size and work with an assigned coach, typically performing a mix of historically significant jazz repertoire, newer works by leading jazz writers and original pieces by student composers.

    The University jazz ensembles play a variety of big band repertoire and perform for many events both on and off campus. Entrance is limited to traditional big band instruments: trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, guitar, bass, drums, and percussion. Course Numbers: Jazz Ensemble I (MUS /) / Jazz Ensemble II (MUS /).

    Director: The Jazz/Rock Fusion Ensemble is a group dedicated to playing the music called fusion - jazz mixed with rock. The group might play tunes by Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, David Sanborn and Cannonball Aderley, just to name a few. The group is made up of players depending on available instrumentation and current enrollment.

    Large Jazz Ensembles include UWSP Jazz Ensemble-Mathew Buchman, Director (NFAC , , [email protected]) and Jazz Lab Band-Brent Turney, Director (NFAC , , [email protected]) Both section have several performances throughout the year. These ensembles are open to any university student through audition.
