Building from the sweeping, three-guitar attack that punctuated the best moments of Pablo Honey, Radiohead create a grand and forceful sound that nevertheless resonates with anguish and despair -- it's cerebral anthemic rock. Occasionally, the album displays its influences, whether it's U2, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., or the Pixies, but Radiohead turn clichés inside out, making each song sound bracingly fresh/

Listened to this album the other day for the first time in years. It has aged pretty well. Really the perfect blend of their two fave bands (U2 and Radiohead). I really hate what they've become, but I'll always enjoy those first albums and especially this one.

As great as the first CD (containing The Bends album) is, it is remarkable how fine the second CD is. First, it contains all of the songs (other than the title track, which appears on the first CD) of the "My Iron Lung" ep, which was released in , the year before the Bends was released (and following the Pablo Honey album)/5(1K).
